CENTRAL HEATING BY WASTE AT SONDEBORG
WRITTEN BY HAMISI A. HAMISI (BGY PARTICIPANT FROM J.K. NYERERE SECONDARY SCHOOL – KILIMANJARO - TANZANIA)
We were welcomed very well with the one of the workers in that industry. Then we went to their meeting room and he gave a short history of the industry by using a projector. Thereafter we went inside the industry and saw how the tracks come and bring the waste inside the industry. They have to measure the weight in order to know the amount of waste brought. Waste is picked by using the booldozer and put in the tank in where the waste is burnt in a temperature of 11000C to form energy and heat. Energy produced is used by the plant while extra energy is connected to the national grid. Heat produced is used in the houses in Sondeborg town. When we finished, we went back to the meeting room and asked some questions such as:
Why do they choose computers to control machines ?
In their daily activities, do they produce carbon dioxide?
At the end we thanked the man who also gave us the plant email address. He also sent us email concerning their operation at the company so as we can know more about the plant.
