WRITTEN BY RAMADHAN L. MANDEL (BGY PARTICIPANT FROM J.K. NYERERE SECONDARY SCHOOL – KILIMANJARO - TANZANIA)
We visited a power plant industry called Enstedværket (Dong energy). We received a warm welcome from Mr Christian M. who explained to us about the industry.
D- Danish
O- Oil and
N- Natural
G-Gas Energy.
This power plant uses coal to run the machines. This power plant produce 626 MW of electricity per year. The power plant produces electricity and hot water for house holds.
We then got an opportunity to go round the industry to look for different machines and how they operate. We asked different questions concerning the industry such as:
Does it produce CO2?.
How were they dealing with CO2 emmission?
Where do you get coal nowadays?
Do you have any plan of introducing this powerplant in Africa?.
Christian M. answered the questions and he explained that the waste gas produced contains very little CO2 which they are still finding ways to solve that problem. He also explained that the coal used is obtained from South Africa and Asia because it is of good quality.
Actually we learned how to produce electricity using coal without destructing or polluting the environment.
