WRITTEN BY IDDI S. MKIRAMWENI AND RAMADHAN L. MANDEL (BGY PARTICIPANT FROM MJIMPYA AND J.K. NYERERE SECONDARY SCHOOLS – KILIMANJARO - TANZANIA)
It was Sunday and there was no program of visiting any where, so we met at Anders Brandt's house which is in Hundslev village and made the solar heater with best instructions from him. At first no one new how to make Solar heater but later Mr. Brandt gave us the lecture concerning the materials needed and how to make it. So at last we knew how to make it by listening and practising.
Making of solar heater needs the following items:
Plastic glass sheet for allowing the sun light to pass through it and prevent the heat to get out of the system.
Pieces of timber for making the box,
Black oil paint
Insulating material like wool under neath the iron sheet and around the water tank and hot water pipes for keeping the heat
Plastic or galvanized pipes for transfering cold water to enter into the heater and hot water to get into the tank and
Tank for storing hot water.
Therefore after we had collected the materials needed, we started to make our Solar heater which was measured 120cm x 65cm x 15cm.
When we completed making it, we tested it. We put water in a bucket of 20 liters. The water was 150C. After 5 minutes, the water temperature on the upper part in the bucket rose to 350C.
